Our Vascular Surgeons in North Lakes
Vascular surgery is a surgical sub-speciality of arterial and venous surgery but the minimally invasive techniques employed by vascular surgeons have provided it with its own unique applications.
Vascular surgeons are educated in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions and diseases affecting all parts of the vascular system except for those of brain and heart.
Vascular surgeons perform arterial and venous treatment by angiography, stenting, non-operative varicose vein treatment by sclerotherapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures and endovenous laser treatment. These modern treatments are rapidly replacing major surgery in countries around the world.
These treatments had traditionally been performed by interventional radiologists in the past, but the growing proficiency by vascular surgeons in assuming performing these types of procedures with a minimally-invasive technique have shifted these tasks to the vascular surgeon’s area of expertise.
Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS)
RACS works in conjunction with the Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery to conduct training and education courses for vascular surgeons in-training.
Accreditation is conferred by the Australian Medical Council on behalf of the Medical Board of Australia.
The RACS is also active in establishing a Professional Development Programme that supports surgeons throughout their career and helps them improve their skills within their area of specialised medicine.
